OSHER LIFELONG LEARNING INSTITUTE (OLLI)
There are OLLI branches all across the country, including one at UCI, with expert-led courses for intellectually curious, seasoned adults interested in discovering new facts and sharing ideas. The Susi Q is a OLLI/UCI satellite site with a limited curriculum of courses at a special price.

HOME-DELIVERED MEALS
South County Senior Services provides meals to individuals 60+ who are living at home, unable to prepare their own food or go out to eat or have little to no assistance to obtain adequate nutrition. For information, call 949/499-7575.
LUNCH PROGRAM
A licensed dietician with South County Senior Services ensures that meals are nutritious and delicious. CLICK HERE for latest menus. A donation of $4.00 is requested.

CASE MANAGEMENT
A free program to help frail older adults live safely and independently in their own homes for as long as possible. Our case manager can make comprehensive in-home assessments and develop individualized care plans with the client and/or the family.
REFERRALS
Call us for the names of home care agencies, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and similar services in the Laguna Beach area. While we cannot endorse any provider, we refer only to those that are bonded, licensed and insured.


SOCIAL SERVICES

HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program)
A trained volunteer offers advice and information on Medicare, supplemental insurance, HMOs, long-term care insurance, and related issues.
LEGAL AID/SCLAP (Senior Citizens Legal Advocacy)
Free legal services to seniors who are 60+. Expert volunteers assist with issues such as Social Security, Medicare, Medi-Cal, HMO, nursing homes, housing, consumer problems, and elder abuse. They provide advice and referrals in areas such as: bankruptcy, small claims, wills, powers of attorney, conservatorships, personal injury, workers compensation, family law, and real estate.

By appointment from January through April 15.

LAGUNA BEACH TRANSIT
20-ride bus passes. The cost is $6 for seniors 65+. Free passes are available to Laguna Beach low-income seniors. Please call 949/464-9535.
LAGUNA BEACH TRANSIT PLUS!
For Laguna Beach residents only: one-way taxi vouchers for up to four persons for $3 (gratuities not included.) Operates Monday through Saturday from 5:30 PM to 2:30 AM and Sunday from 8 AM to 2:30 AM. Valid ONLY within Laguna Beach as long as one of the points is in the downtown area or along Coast Highway from Viejo Street to 7th Avenue. Vouchers may be purchased at the Community Services Department at City Hall or at the Susi Q.

LB 1: Iran: A Traveler's Tale

John Bush, Ph.D., a recent traveler and outsider to Persian culture will relate his experiences to Iranian history by his photographs, documentary DVDs, music and art of Iran.
LB 2: Readers' Theater: Contemporary Playwrights
Wednesdays: Feb 17 & 24, Mar 3 &10 from 2-3:30
Alison King, Ph.D. and Marcy Middler, Ph.D. lead partici-pants through the script of a play, without props, costumes, sets or preparation, and without memorizing the lines. Material for this Readers' Theater course will be short 10-minute plays authored by contemporary playwrights.
LB 3: Science Discussion Group
Tuesdays: Feb 9 & 23, Mar 9 & 23, Apr 13 & 27 fr 10-12
Ron Williams and Alison King of OLLI@UCI Science Committee help participants gain a deeper understanding of science topics currently in the media. Each session is devoted to one topic, such as epigenetics, mirror neurons, "super bugs" and machine consciousness.

Alison King, Ph.D. and Marcy Middler, Ph.D. will facilitate the class using a Readers' Theater format. Following each presentation of a scene, class members will discuss meanings gained from their experience.
LB 6: Wildflower Hike in Laguna Coast Wilderness
Thursday, April 1 from 9:30-11
Lonnie Horn, certified docent naturalist, meets the class at the Nix Nature Center in the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park for a 1.5-mile interpretive hike. A profusion of wildflowers should delight the eye.
LB 7: Hidden Wonders in Foreign Places
Thursdays, Feb 18 & Mar 4 from 10-11:30
Alison King, author and adventurer, traveled to the Arabian Peninsula and Somaliland in 2008. She will guide us through the Omo River Valley of Southern Ethiopia,the Arabian capital of Saana, and a start-up country called Somaliland.
LB 8: Taste of French Cooking
Wednesdays: May 12 & 19 from 10-11:30
Sylvain Touagi, world traveler, chef, connoisseur and local businessman will make your mouth water hearing about the various signature dishes from many regions of France.
