Transportation to the Susi Q and Medical Care

NEW! BUS STOP AT THE SUSI Q

The City’s blue buses will stop right in front of the Center Monday – Saturday all day. New schedules will be posted at all bus stops, so getting to the Center will be easier than ever. This is a one-year experiment, however, so let’s use it or we’ll lose it!

CAR(E)FREE LAGUNA
Does giving up your car keys feel like a fate worse than death? Introducing CAR(E)FREE LAGUNA.

CareFreeMagnet

When the time comes, will giving up our car keys feel like a fate worse than death? A growing number of people emphatically say, "No!" Many are true pioneers: people who still drive, but find ways not to. What they have learned—that we are healthier, wealthier, and easier on the planet when we don't drive—is good news. And when seniors stop driving, Laguna Beach has a number of transportation options to help them get around town, and to and from the Susi Q and medical appointments. The challenge is to make us all aware of these options—before we need them.

That's why Laguna Beach Seniors, with funding from the City, has created an educational program called CAR
EFREE LAGUNA to "drive" home the point that smart seniors don't need cars to keep living it up in Laguna Beach.

CAR
EFREE LAGUNA is more than a handy magnet. It's a call to action:

  • Let's reach out to friends and neighbors who have stopped driving to make sure they don't become isolated—which is the enemy of aging gracefully.
  • Let's give people we trust permission to tell us when we should stop driving—because we may not be the first to know. (Need help having the talk? Start here.)
  • Let's use our cars less. There are all kinds of great ideas out there from carpooling to car holidays, walking, biking, and public transportation.
  • Let's extend our "safe driving" years by taking driver safety refresher classes, like the ones AARP offers four times a year at the Susi Q.
  • Let's listen to those who have stopped driving. They have a lot to teach us.
  • Let's put our heads together to improve our hometown transportation system so that it works more efficiently for everyone.

With CAR
EFREE LAGUNA, we are joining a conversation that has been going on for years about how we can become a less car-centric community. We are grateful to all of you who have been part of this dialogue, and look forward to working together in the years to come. And it will take years—just as it did to "buckle up" without thinking about it—for alternatives to driving to become an unremarkable part of everyday life, as well as lifelines for the car-free.
See you at the Susi Q!
